 “TYPES OF INTERVIEW.”

An interview is a physical and sociological instrument. It is an interaction between two ormore persons for a specific purpose, in which the interviewer asks the interviewee specificquestions in order to assess his/her suitability for recruitment, admission, or promotion. It canalso be a meeting in which a journalist asks somebody questions to determine their opinions. It isa systematized method of contact with a person to know his/her views and is regarded as themost important method of data collection. In addition, interviewing a person gives an idea ofhow effectively the person can perform a particular task.

👉🏻Types of interview:-

Depending on the objective and nature, interviews can be categorized into the following types:

• Job                 •Information

• Persuasive.    • Exit

Evaluation        •. Counselling

• Conflict resolution. • Disciplinary

• Termination.     •Media

Job interviews

In job interviews, the employer wants to learn about the applicant’s abilities and experiences, and the candidate wants to learn about the position on offer and the organization. Both thecandidate and the employer hope to make a good impression and to establish rapport. In theinitial round, job interviews are usually formal and structured. But later, interviews may berelatively spontaneous as the interviewer explores the candidate’s responses.

Information interviews

The interviewer seeks facts that bear on a decision or contribute to basic understanding.Information flows mainly in one direction: one person asks a list of questions that must becovered and listens to the answers supplied by the other person, e.g., doctor–patient, boss–subordinate, etc.Persuasive interviewsOne person tells another about a new idea, product, or service and explains why the other shouldact on his/her recommendations.

Persuasive interview

Persuasive interviews are often associated with, but arecertainly not limited to, selling. The persuader asks about the other person’s needs and showshow the product or concept is able to meet those needs. Persuasive interviewers require skill indrawing out and listening to others as well as the ability to impart suitable information, adaptedto the situation and the sensitivities of the interviewee.

Exit interviews

In exit interviews, the interviewer tries to understand why the interviewee is leaving theorganization or transferring to another department or division. A departing employee can oftenprovide insight into whether the business and human resource is being handled efficiently orwhether there is a considerable scope for improvement. The interviewer tends to ask all thequestions while the interviewee provides answers. Encouraging the employee to focus on eventsand processes rather than on personal gripes will elicit more useful information for theorganization.

Evaluation interviews

A supervisor periodically gives an employee feedback on his/her performance. The supervisorand the employee discuss progress towards predetermined standards or goals and evaluate areasthat require improvement. They may also discuss goals for the coming year, as well as theemployee’s long-term aspirations and general concerns.

Counselling interviews

A supervisor talks with an employee about personal problems that are interfering with workperformance. The interviewer is concerned with the welfare of both the employee and theorganization. The goal is to establish the facts, convey the company’s concern, and steer theperson towards a source of help. Only a trained professional should offer advice on problemssuch as substance abuse, marital tension, and financial trouble.

Conflict-resolution interviews

conflict-resolution interviews, two competing people or groups of people with opposing pointsof view, such as Smith versus Jones, day shift versus night shift, General Motors versus theUnited Auto Workers, explore their problems and attitudes. The goal is to bring the two partiescloser together, cause adjustments in perceptions and attitudes, and create a more productiveclimate.

Disciplinary interviews

In disciplinary interviews, a supervisor tries to correct the behaviour of an employee who hasignored the organization’s rules and regulations. The interviewer tries to get the employee to seethe reason for the rules and to agree to comply. The interviewer also reviews the facts andexplores the person’s attitude. Because of the emotional reaction that is likely, neutralobservations are more effective than critical comments.

Termination interview

A supervisor informs an employee of the reasons for the termination of the latter’s job. Theinterviewer tries to avoid involving the company in legal action and tries to maintain a positiverelationship with the employee. To accomplish these goals, the interviewer gives reasons that arespecific, accurate, and verifiable.

Media interviews

Most of us might have watched programmes such as Walk the Talk, Meet the Entrepreneur, etc.,as well as press conferences organized by the government/businesses/industries on television

Conclusion

.Many a time, reporters call up over the phone the head of an educational institution, an importantperson in the government, or the chief executive officer (CEO) of a company to askabout their success stories or their alarming anomalies. We might have watched the interviewgiven by Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Group, during the release of Tata Nano or the onegiven by Mr Shashi Tharoor, the former Minister of State for External Affairs, during the IPLKochi Franchisee controversy

(2)Group discussions:-

Most recruiters use this as the second stage after the aptitude tests. Somecompanies may conduct group activities as well to assess the candidates’ personality, leadershipskills, knowledge, communication skills, etc.

(3)Presentations :-

A few companies may ask the candidates to present themselves in two or threeminutes in order to shortlist.

(4)Face-to-face interview :-

(5)Videoconferencing interview :-

This could be a technical-cum-HR interview.

Resume and Cover Letter Essay

Introduction

In today’s world, getting a good job is very important for everyone. To get a job, a person must apply properly. Two important documents for job application are a resume and a cover letter. These documents help the employer understand the candidate’s education, skills, and experience. A good resume and cover letter increase the chance of getting a job.

What is a Resume?

A resume is a formal document that gives short information about a person’s education, skills, work experience, and achievements. It is usually one or two pages long. The word “resume” means summary. It gives a quick summary of a candidate’s professional life.

Main Parts of a Resume:

Personal Information – Name, phone number, email address, and address.

Career Objective – A short statement about career goals.

Educational Qualification – Details about school, college, degrees, and marks.

Work Experience – Previous jobs, company names, and job roles.

Skills – Technical skills, communication skills, computer knowledge, etc.

Achievements – Awards, certificates, or special accomplishments.

References – Names of people who can recommend you (optional).

A resume should be clear, simple, and well-organized. It should not contain false information. Good formatting and correct grammar are very important.

What is a Cover Letter?

A cover letter is a letter sent along with a resume. It explains why a person is applying for a job and why they are suitable for that position. It is usually one page long.

A cover letter is more personal than a resume. It shows the candidate’s interest in the company and job.

Main Parts of a Cover Letter:

Sender’s Address and Date

Receiver’s Name and Company Address

Subject Line

Greeting (Dear Sir/Madam)

Introduction Paragraph – Introduce yourself and mention the job position.

Body Paragraph – Explain your skills, qualifications, and experience.

Conclusion Paragraph – Request for interview and thank the employer.

Closing (Yours sincerely) and Signature

A cover letter should be polite, professional, and positive. It should not repeat everything from the resume. Instead, it should highlight important points.

Difference Between Resume and Cover Letter

Resume Cover Letter

Gives summary of qualifications Explains interest in job

Short and factual Detailed and personal

Structured in points Written in paragraph form

Includes skills and experience Explains why you are suitable

Importance of Resume and Cover Letter

A good resume creates a strong first impression. Employers often receive many applications, so they select candidates based on resumes. A well-written cover letter shows confidence and communication skills. Together, these documents help a candidate stand out from others.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a resume and a cover letter are very important for job applications. A resume gives a summary of education and experience, while a cover letter explains interest and suitability for the job. Both should be clear, honest, and professional. A strong resume and cover letter can help a person get an interview and achieve career success.
